Course Aim:
To improve the quality of everyday orthodontic cases with brackets and aligners
Objectives:
- Learn how to optimize finishing in the final stages of orthodontic treatment
- How to maximise bracket prescription
- Understand the GET technique and bracket options
- Learn how aligners work and understand their limitations
- Understand the difference between aligner and fixed appliance mechanics
- Recognize when TADs are required for fixed appliances and aligners
- Identify when a case is not progressing well and how to manage it
Outcome:
Achieve a higher standard of finishing taking into consideration the limits of everyday practice and in accordance with sound biomechanical principles
Programme
8.30am: Coffee and registration
9.00am – 5.00pm:
- Understanding Straight Wire
- Optimizing finishing in the Straight Wire Technique
- The GET technique and bracket options
- Aligner Biomechanics – what works and what doesn’t
- Management of extraction and non-extraction cases
- When to use TADs with fixed appliances and when to use with aligners
- Trouble shooting
Speaker Information
Dr Sunil Hirani:
BSc (Hons), BDS, MSc, FDSRCS (Eng),MOrthRCS (Eng), FDS (Orth), GCAP (KCL)
Dr Hirani graduated from Guy’s Hospital in 1996. He was awarded Membership in Orthodontics from the RCS in 2003 and passed his exit fellowship FDS (Orth) in 2005.
Dr Hirani has published articles in leading journals such as the Journal of Orthodontics, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, and European Journal of Orthodontics and has presented world-wide on biomechanics, skeletal anchorage, lingual fixed appliances and 3D printed appliances. He now works exclusively in private practice and is current Chairman of the British Lingual Orthodontic Society. Dr Hirani has a strong interest in digital orthodontics, self-ligating brackets, aligners, lingual orthodontics, 3D printing, skeletal anchorage and interdisciplinary care.
Prof. Michel Le Gall
DDS, BDS, MSc, FDS (Ortho), GCAP (Marseille), BCO, PhD (tribology)
Professor Michel Le Gall is a specialist in dentofacial orthopedics (CECSMO) who graduated from the University of Aix Marseille in 1986.
He worked in private practice from 1983 to 2020 in Aubagne, France and is currently Professor of University-Hospital, Head of Orthodontics Department at the Timone Hospital and Head of Department at the Marseille School of Dentistry.
Prof Le Gall holds a PhD in Energy Mechanics on the frictional behavior of dental movement in ODF and holds Habilitation to Direct Research. He is an Associate Researcher at the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory UMRT24 IFSTTAR
