Lectures:

• Tomas^® – More than a TAD

• The best sites for TAD insertion

• Maximising success with TADs

• Biomechanics of anteroposterior anchorage

• Maxillary and mandibular space closure

• Sliding appliances: mesialisers and distalisers

• Correction of vertical problems

• Correction of transverse problems (MARPE)

Practical:

• Tomas^® pin insertion in bone blocks

• Setting up mandibular space closure with Tomas Power Arm

Course Aim: To provide fundamental and practical knowledge required to start using the Tomas^® TAD system

Learning objectives:

•Appreciate the clinical applications for TADs

• Gain insight into the treatment planning and biomechanical considerations for TADs

• Learn step-by-step insertion of Tomas^® pins

• Gain hands-on experience of Tomas^® pin insertion

• Understand the management of a variety of common clinical problems

Anticipated learning outcome:

• Understand the use of TADs

• Carry out safe treatment with the Tomas^® pin

This course is suitable for Postgraduate Trainees, Specialist and Consultant Orthodontists, Dentists with a Special interest in Orthodontics, Dentists studying towards a Diploma in Orthodontics or those experienced in Orthodontics.

Dr. Naeem I Adam

BDS(Hons) MFDS PGCert MedEd MSc FDS (Orth)

Naeem Adam is a Consultant Orthodontist at the Leeds Dental Institute. He completed his dental training at Newcastle University’s School of Dental Sciences, graduating with honours and distinctions in both academic and clinical dentistry. He undertook his postgraduate training in orthodontics at the Leeds Dental Institute, St Luke‘s hospital, Bradford and Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

He has lectured on a broad range of clinical and non-clinical topics at national and international scientific meetings and conferences, and teaches on both the Yorkshire and Northern Irish orthodontic therapy courses. His clinical interests include temporary anchorage devices, clinical photography and orthodontic training and education.

Naeem’s prize-winning research on the personality of dental professionals, published in the American Journal of Orthodontics, is the largest study of its type to have been conducted. It formed the basis of a Master’s by Research which was awarded with distinction.

He is a member of the British Orthodontic Society and past Chair of the Training Grades Group, and holds a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
